The Ford 351 Cleveland Oil pan often needs a deeper than factory oil pan.The extra oil capacity limits you running out of oil when operating at high rpm levels. The high RPM often pumps the oil to the rocker covers and drain back time is too long. Extra capacity helps eliminate this issue and keeps a reserve where it counts. This issue is further highlighted when running High volume oil pumps and only makes the issue worse. You can run oil restricing pushrods as an option. 

When buying a front sump 351 Cleveland oil pan, look for a straight wall at the rear of the pan. As on hard accleration, the oil wants to be forced out and go to the back of the pan, leaving your front pick up exposed and no oil.... you know this leads to failure.
