ARP 135-5601 Big Block Chevy 454, 4-Bolt Main Studs Kit. Suits OEM cast Iron Blocks + No windage tray
Fits: Big Block Chevy engines with 4-bolt main caps, including 396, 402, 427, 454, 496, 502 and 572 applications. Not designed for windage-tray mounting.
ARP 135-5601 replaces the factory main bolts with high-strength 1/2-inch main studs for more consistent clamping of the main caps. A proven choice for performance BBC rebuilds, stroker engines and competition combinations.
Studs locate the main caps while reducing wear on the block threads during assembly. ARP rates these fasteners at 200,000 psi and specifies 110 ft-lb using the supplied ARP Ultra-Torque lubricant.

ARP Main Studs for Big Block Chevy Engines
ARP 135-5601 suits Chevrolet Big Block engines using conventional 4-bolt main caps. Applications listed by ARP include BBC 396, 402, 427, 454, 496, 502 and 572 engines.
Install the studs hand-tight into clean block threads. Lubricate the stud threads, nut faces and washers with ARP Ultra-Torque, then tighten the nuts in three equal steps following the correct main-cap torque sequence.
Changing from factory main bolts to higher-clamping-force studs can alter the main bearing bore dimensions. ARP advises checking the main tunnels for size and out-of-round after installation. Align honing may be required, particularly during a fresh performance engine build.
This kit does not provide extended studs for mounting a windage tray. Check the sump and windage-tray arrangement before ordering.
