COMP Cams 35-780-9 Solid Roller Camshaft – Ford 351 Windsor (298DR-6)
A mechanical (solid) roller camshaft from COMP Cams for the 351 Windsor and Windsor-based strokers run hard at the strip. The 298DR-6 grind lifts .696" intake / .672" exhaust on the factory 1.6:1 rocker ratio, with 268°/275° duration at .050" and a tight 106° lobe separation. It comes on from 4,200 rpm and pulls to 7,200, so it's matched to a high-compression, high-stall combination — think 12:1 or more with a 4,500+ stall converter.
Fits: Ford 351W (351 Windsor), 8-cylinder, 1969–1996, in 351 to 377 cubic inch builds.
This is a competition grind. With that duration, lift and rpm band it wants race fuel or a dedicated tune, a loose converter or a manual, gearing to suit, and a valvetrain built to match — it is not a street cam and it is not a bolt-in upgrade for a stock 351W. Recommended Upgrades & Valve Springs:
This cam is part of a package, not a standalone swap. To run the 35-780-9 you'll need:
- Valve springs: a solid-roller dual spring rated past .696" lift with the open pressure to control the valve at 7,200 rpm. Our DRP-9550P-BBKIT Proline RPM solid roller dual valve spring kit is rated to .770" max lift (250 lbs seat @ 1.900", 550 lbs/in) and ships complete with 7° retainers and locks for 11/32" stems, bronze-guide locators and Viton seals. Confirm the installed height suits your heads before ordering — our team can check this with you.
- Retro-fit solid roller lifters (link-bar style) — not included with the cam.
- Distributor gear compatible with a billet steel cam (bronze or steel composite). A stock iron gear will not survive on this camshaft.
- Pushrods checked for correct length once the valvetrain is assembled.
